Reformation Day is one of the key dates in Christian history and with the annual observance of that day approaching, the Alliance is excited to provide a bundle of reformed truth reflecting some the key doctrines of the Reformation.
First, is Phil Ryken’s writing on “Radical Depravity” which focuses on how sin affects the entire scope of human experience: the moral nature, the will, and the mind. There is also an excellent chapter on the Bondage of the will, in particular, that exposes all the wrong thinking regarding human ability and how it was refuted by spiritual giants like Luther and Edwards.
Next, is Mark Talbot’s treatment of ”The True Signs of Conversion” that includes a helpful summary of saving faith vs. counterfeit faith and a precise description of Justification by Faith and regeneration. He closes with the various signs we can detect regarding saving faith and the tests we can use to determine its validity.
Finally, James Boice finishes with his great statement of assurance and perseverance entitled, “Secure In Christ”. It is an examination of how we come to faith in Christ and how we are kept in that state by His power and faithfulness. His closing argument is that all of salvation is a result of God’s workmanship, which is really a compelling summation of salvation by faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, by the Word of God alone and all for the glory of God alone, which is a wonderful way of closing these Reformation meditations.
